What the dice names mean
"d6" means a six-sided die, "d20" a twenty-sided one. "2d6" means roll two six-sided dice and add them, and "2d6+3" adds 3 to that total. Board games mostly use d6; role-playing games such as Dungeons & Dragons use the full set from d4 to d20, and d100 (percentile dice) for some tables.
Odds with two dice
With two six-sided dice there are 36 equally likely pairs, so the totals are not equally likely. Seven comes up most often because six pairs make it; 2 and 12 have only one pair each.
| Total | Ways | Chance |
|---|---|---|
| 2 or 12 | 1 | 1 in 36 (2.8%) |
| 3 or 11 | 2 | 2 in 36 (5.6%) |
| 4 or 10 | 3 | 3 in 36 (8.3%) |
| 5 or 9 | 4 | 4 in 36 (11.1%) |
| 6 or 8 | 5 | 5 in 36 (13.9%) |
| 7 | 6 | 6 in 36 (16.7%) |
Questions
Are the rolls fair?
Yes. Each die uses your browser's cryptographic random generator, and values that would favour some faces are thrown away and drawn again, so every face has the same chance.
How many dice can I roll?
Up to 20 at once, with 2 to 1,000 sides each when you type a roll such as 20d6 or 1d1000.
Does it remember my rolls?
The last few rolls are listed under the result while the page is open. Nothing is saved after you leave.
