How the timer keeps time

The timer remembers when it should finish and checks the clock, rather than counting ticks. If you switch tabs or your phone dims the screen, it still ends on time and the page title shows the time left. Browsers may delay the alarm sound in a background tab, so keep the tab open for the sound.

A plain number is read as minutes. Use a colon for minutes and seconds (1:30) or hours, minutes and seconds (1:00:00), or write units like 45s or 1h 20m. The longest timer is 100 hours.

What you can type

As you type, a line under the box shows how the timer read it, and Enter starts it straight away. These are real readings from the timer:

You typeThe timer readsStarts at

1:75Not read: seconds go up to 59–
101hNot read: the limit is 100 hours–

The one to watch is a plain decimal: 1.5 means one and a half minutes, not 1 minute 5 seconds. When a time isn't understood, the line suggests a few formats that work. A length you type and start is remembered on this device for next time, and Copy link makes a link that opens the timer already set to it.

When the time is up

The alarm sounds and quick buttons appear: +1 min and +5 min start another short round straight away, handy for "five more minutes" in a classroom or a meeting that runs over. After a 25-minute timer there is also a 5 min break button, so a Pomodoro session flows into its break with one tap. While the timer runs, the page asks the browser to keep the screen on, and lets it sleep again when you pause or the timer ends.

What each preset is good for

3 minutesSteeping tea, brushing teeth, a short timed quiz

10 minutesA stand-up meeting, a timed reading block, a short workout set
15 minutesA longer break, a practice exam section, a power nap
25 minutesOne Pomodoro focus session
30 minutesA presentation slot, homework time, a cardio session
1 hourA study block, a board-game round, an exam rehearsal

Using it for the Pomodoro technique

The Pomodoro technique, devised by Francesco Cirillo, breaks work into 25-minute focus sessions separated by short breaks. A common routine: work for 25 minutes, rest for 5, and after four sessions take a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes. Start the 25-minute preset, and when the alarm sounds, switch to the 5-minute preset. Many people find the fixed end time makes it easier to start a task they have been putting off.

Tips for classrooms and meetings

Press Full screen so the whole room can see the time left; the digits scale to fill the screen, and the progress bar shows at a glance how much is gone. On a projector, the dark theme is easier to read in a dim room and follows your device's setting. For speaking turns, set the time per speaker and press Reset between people rather than reloading the page.

Questions

Can I share a timer with a set length?

Yes. Type the length, then press Copy link. Anyone who opens the link gets the timer set to that length, ready to start, which is useful for a class or a group call.

Will it keep running if I lock my phone?

The timer keeps the right time, because it checks the clock instead of counting ticks, so the display is correct when you come back. While it runs, the page asks the browser to keep the screen from switching off, which most current browsers allow. If you lock the phone yourself, many phones pause web pages, and the alarm may not sound until you unlock. Leave the screen on for anything you can't miss.

Why is there no sound?

Browsers only allow sound after you tap the page, so start the timer with a tap or click. Check that "Play alarm sound" is ticked and your device isn't muted.
