Counting down in weeks or working days
Divide the days left by seven for weeks: 51 days is 7 weeks and 2 days. The result above also shows how many weekdays fall in between. If you need the working days before a deadline with public holidays taken out, the business days calculator handles more than 200 countries.
Worked example: counting from November 5, 2026

A year from today is 365 days but 52 weeks and 1 day, which is why a birthday moves one weekday later each year, or two after February 29. The weekday column is the one to use for school days or a work deadline; take off public holidays with the business days calculator if they matter.
Naming a countdown
Type a name such as "Trip to Japan" or "Mia's birthday" and the big line reads "208 days until Trip to Japan" instead of a bare number. The browser tab shows the same, for example "208 days · Trip to Japan", so you can keep the page open in a tab and see the count at a glance. The name travels with Copy link and Share, and goes into the calendar file when you press Add to calendar. For a trip abroad, the time zone converter shows what time it will be when you land.
How the countdown works
The count starts from today's date on your device and doesn't include today. If today is December 24, Christmas is 1 day away. On the day itself it shows 0.
The public holiday list uses the same data as the business days calculator: US federal and England & Wales bank holidays are calculated from their official rules, and other countries come from the Nager.Date holiday database, checked against government calendars. It opens with your country when your browser reports it.
Holidays that move each year are worked out from their rules: Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of November, Mother's Day in the US is the second Sunday of May, and Easter follows the Western church calendar. Once a date has passed this year, the countdown moves to next year's date.
Questions
Why does another countdown show one more day?
Some countdowns include today in the total. Here today is not counted, so on December 24 Christmas is 1 day away, which matches "tomorrow". Both are reasonable; just compare like with like.
Can I share a countdown?
Yes. Give it a name if you like, such as "Mia's birthday", then press "Copy link" or "Share". The link opens the same date with the same name, and the number updates each day for whoever opens it.
Can I put the date in my calendar?
Press "Add to calendar". It saves a small .ics file with an all-day event on that date; open it and Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or Outlook adds the day.
